TRACK & FIELD
Indy Genesis began track and field after hearing the need expressed by many families. The team offers all track events including sprints, long distance, and relays. The team will also offer field events such as shot put and discuss.
There will be an elementary, boys and girls middle school and boys and girls varsity high school teams. They will compete against many public and private schools.
The team consists of homeschooled students new to track and those who have been competing for years. Below is an overview including the competitions and events.
Overview
Ages: 7-18
Teams: Elementary Co-ed Team, Middle School Co-ed Team, Girls Varsity Team, Boys Varsity Team
Mission: Building Christlike character through homeschool competitive sports
Practices: All teams begin practicing indoors the first week in February. Once it gets warmer in March, the team practices outdoors at Clark Pleasant Middle School right off of highway 65 in Whiteland.
Coaches: Genesis is blessed to have coaches for sprinters, middle distance, long distance, and field events. Several coaches have competed in Track at the college level and had coaching experience prior to Genesis.
Fall Track & Field Day: For kids considering track and field, Genesis offers a one day event in the fall for kids to try out any event. The Fall Track & Field Day is run by our coaches like a real track meet. It is open to any homeschool student.
Registration: Genesis opens registration for the season in the November/December timeframe. Registration doesn't close until March. View the track registration page to see specifics for the season.
Competitions
(March, April, & May)
Timeframe: Meets begin the third week in March and continue until the middle of May.
Regular Season: In comparison to other homeschool sports, there are very few homeschool track teams. As a result, we compete against public and private schools in the Indianapolis area. Schools include Heritage Christian, Franklin Central, Greenwood Christian Academy, and many others.
Large Meets:
-
Track & Field Day - at the elementary level, we provide a Track & Field Day at the end of the season. This is an open meet for any homeschool kids across the state to compete together. Kids do not have to be a part of a team but can run individually and bring friends.
-
State Championships - Genesis hosts the Indiana Track & Field State Championships for all middle school and high school students who are homeschooled or go to a non-IHSAA sanctioned school (small schools in the state). This meet is in May.
-
National Championships - Genesis also competes in the Homeschool Track & Field National Championships in Missouri in May.
